On November 5th and 6th 2025, AsIAm- Ireland’s Autism Charity hosted the 2nd Transnational Meeting within the scope of the project Self Determination Academy (SDA), financially supported by Erasmus+ programme.
This meeting aimed to discuss the outcomes of the focus-groups accomplished by the 3 partners (Portugal, Ireland and Croatia), as well as the design of an original course in which young people with and without disabilities develop and strengthen their abilities as advocates and self-advocates of their rights of people with disabilities. The meeting ended with the definition of the next steps to pursue: implementation of the course, evaluation of the course results and definition of work regarding the products of the project.
Each country’s focus-groups were made by 2 groups, one with young people with and without disabilities, and the other with experts in self-representation, self-advocacy, human rights and autism. The theoretical and practical course was introduced in all three countries that assembled the focus-groups and is expected to be a reference for inclusion of autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities in the matter of civic literacy and self-advocacy.
